Background

In recent years, the Government of Nepal and various organizations have focused on equipping secondary schools with computer labs and digital resources, providing grants to schools with the necessary infrastructure. However, few programs have been directed at basic schools (grades 1–8), which lack access to similar resources. This project targets basic schools, aiming to establish a strong foundation in core subjects like math, English, and science through digital content and teacher training, fostering inquiry-based learning.

Bajura, a remote district in Sudur Paschim province, has limited access to quality digital learning resources, with students often from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Similarly, East Nawalparasi in Gandaki Province faces similar challenges. Both districts are new project locations for our organization, where the local communities and authorities are committed to supporting this initiative to provide quality education.

Activities and Timeline
  • Coordinated with schools and municipalities to facilitate project activities.
  • Conducted a 5-day orientation and initial training for teachers across all six schools.
  • Deployed and installed digital library servers, Raspberry Pi computers, and school networking infrastructure.
  • Performed the first round of monitoring and support three months after initial training to ensure effective use of digital tools.
  • Provided a 3-day refresher training for teachers, followed by a second monitoring visit three months later.
  • Implemented systematic monitoring and evaluation to maintain and optimize digital learning tools for educational impact.
Outcomes
  1. A total of 1,117 students across grades 1 to 8 from these 6 public schools gained access to quality digital learning resources, enhancing their educational opportunities.
  2. 36 teachers were trained in incorporating digital learning resources into their daily teaching activities, fostering a more engaging and effective learning environment.
  3. 10 local officials, including education officers and School Management Committee (SMC) members, received orientation on the advantages of integrating digital learning resources into the educational process, contributing to a broader understanding and acceptance of technology in education.
