Empowering Accessible Education in Nepal (EAEN): A Journey Toward Inclusive Digital Learning
What happens when a child finally understands a lesson in a way that truly makes sense to them? For many Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students in Nepal, that moment has often been out of reach. While classrooms and digital platforms continue to evolve, access hasn’t always kept pace, especially for learners who rely on Nepali Sign Language (NSL). According to the Nepal Census 2078 (2021), about 2.2% of the population lives with a disability, and among them, roughly 7.85% are Deaf and 7.87% are Hard of Hearing. That represents a significant number of learners trying to navigate an education system that has not always been designed with them in mind.

Basic Teacher Training at Krishna Secondary School
Open Learning Exchange Nepal completed a four-day basic teacher training program at Krishna Secondary School in Tarkeshwor-2, Taruka, Nuwakot, with 21 teachers participating. The program covered the basic functions of computers, word, ppt, E-Paath, and E-Pustakalaya.

Accessibility Training and Deployment
With the aim of empowering visually and hearing impaired learners, our team conducted monitoring and support visits to several schools during the first quarter of 2024 (January-March). We focused on four schools for visually impaired students (Shree Panchodaya School, Purwanchal Gyan Chakshu Secondary School, Shanti Namuna Secondary School, and Damkada Secondary School).
