Few weeks back I have created an activity named “object identification”. It took me a week to complete that activity. Basically, It displays object and we have to identify its name from list of options. Image, sound and text are the integral components of this activity. After working on few more activities We have realized that it will be better if we could develop a template to make such activities. So, I invested few days to make a template for multiple choice activity. Once it has completed I have told one of my team mates that If I could create three multiple choice activities within three hours then this template can be consider worthy. To my surprise, it takes less than three hours to complete three multiple choice activities. So, now I have realized that if any thing is recurring then creating a template really speed up activities development process.

I have put a lot of work these two weeks into building a prototype library for Nepal’s pilot of OLPC. It is my understanding from an e-mail conversation with S.J. that OLPC hasn’t decided on a system for the library. For the time being I am much more concerned about the back-end of the library than the user interface. I don’t think that it will be incredibly hard to design a simple user interface for kids to search a repository. The harder part is to find a powerful back-end that will be able to accommodate our needs as they grow over time.

Today we went to ‘Good Shepherd School’ to test the learning activities that we had developed for the XO. This was the first time that we got to test our activites with a group of school students. It was a great learning experience for the children and for us too.

We are going to hold a "mini" OLPC Game Jam on Saturday, December 15th. It will be a mini-game jam because it will only be a one-day event, not three. It will focus on developing games using Squeak. Perhaps "SqueakJam" or "OLPC SqueakFest" may be better titles :). We hope to build up to a full-fledged game jam within several months, complete with organized teams, prizes, and media coverage. Most software developers in the Kathmandu Valley work in Java or PHP, not Python or Squeak. I think it will take several mini-jams before there is enough expertise here in Squeak for a full Game Jam.
